AM1320 DONATES $1,000 TO CANCER-STRUCK WELSH WOMAN

We Celebrate With Our Audience

Since late 1990's, CHMB has been the only radio station selected to broadcast live music to accompany the July 1 fireworks display at Canada Place. Attendance to the annual festive celebration Christmas at Canada Place 2002, was also widely promoted by the station to its audience, contributing to the significant growth in attendance to the month-long event.

To enhance listeners¡¦ awareness of their civic rights and responsibilities, a number of live forums were held in November 2002 where municipal election candidates were invited to debate one another and answer questions from the audience, many of whom never had the chance to vote in their places of origin.

The station continues to support a wide variety of community, non-profit and charitable organizations in their fundraising efforts and promotional activities such as the annual radiothon to raise fund for the Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Vancouver or the Walk with the Dragon walkathon organized by SUCCESS every summer

We Are Result-Oriented

Visitors to the Vancouver Chinatown Night Market went up 30% in 2002 when compared to previous years following a successful series of promotional activities put together by CHMB.

CHMB, in conjunction with the Canada China Society of Hi-Tech Entrepreneur Development and two major local newspapers, orchestrated an award ceremony during the Mid-Autumn festival in 2002 to recognize the significant contributions by 10 prominent science and hi-tech professionals of Chinese-Canadian background. The event attracted enormous interest and similar awards were later presented by other community groups.

Vancouver¡¦s mayor now has an official Chinese name, thanks to the effort by listeners of CHMB and five Vancouver community groups. The Chinese Benevolent Association of Vancouver, SUCCESS, Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Vancouver, Vancouver BIA Society Association, and the Vancouver Chinatown Merchants Association worked together to propose a number of suggestions  for CHMB listeners to vote on. ¡§Lee Jian Bao¡¨ is now the official name the mayor uses in community functions and all Chinese news media are required to use this name in their reports.
