ActivitiesIn line with our mandate to cultivate performing and broadcasting talents among the Chinese-Canadian community, CHMB has been organizing events to provide opportunities for the potential and budding talents. The following are examples of such activities: Since 1995, Solid Gold Singing Contest has become a signature event of CHMB aimed at cultivating singing talents among the Chinese-Canadian community. The contest is held at Michael J Fox Theatre in Burnaby. Many of our winners and contestants have gone on to take up professional singing either in Vancouver or in Asia. This is another activities organized by AM1320 in an effort to
cultivate more singing talents among the Chinese community. The
finals of the contest were held at a Richmond dance club. This event has been organized since 1993 as part of the station¡¯s efforts to cultivate young DJs. Many of the past years¡¯ winners and participants have gone on to become successful DJs in Vancouver¡¯s Chinese media.
As part of our mandate to develop more radio talents in the Chinese
Canadian community, CHMB organized broadcast training class in
2005 and 2006 for all ages. Some of the graduates already joined
CHMB as program hosts and studio operators.
CHMB was one of the organizers of the first ever ITM Model Look North America 2006, which was held at River Rock Show Theatre in June 2006. The event is aimed at cultivating Canadian models and introducing Canadian-designed clothing to the huge market of China. The three winners of River Rock Resort ITM Model Look North America 2006 flew to Sanya, Hainan Island in China to compete in China¡¯s largest model search, New Silk Road Model Look. One of the winners, Nicole Tusznio, won second place at the Finale Show of China¡¯s New Silk Road Model Look on September 12, 2006. More...
In an effort to encourage more Chinese Canadians to learn the art of cooking, CHMB started organizing AM1320 Gourmet Food Competition in 2005. Due to the overwhelming response, the competition was held again in 2006.
